2. Galleries

Galleries are user-defined groups of photos that can be made as public or as private as the user chooses.

If you go to /manage/gals on your FotoBilder server, provided you are logged in, you will see all of your currently existing galleries. From this page, you can change gallery descriptions and security settings, move pictures en–masse between other galleries, and setup Child/Parent relationships between galleries.

If you've uploaded pictures to the server without specifying a gallery to upload them to, you will have an extra gallery listed at the top labelled Unsorted. The Unsorted gallery is the only gallery that cannot be customized, nor can it be permanently deleted.

Creating Galleries:  New Galleries can be created by clicking the link labelled [Create Gallery] (/manage/gal) on the Your Galleries page. That link will bring you to the Create Gallery page. To create a gallery, all you need is a non-unique title. The FotoBilder server will assign your gallery a unique identifier automatically, so you don't have to worry about reusing the same titles over and over. Hypothetically you could have 20 galleries named “party”, although that'd probably get too confusing to navigate well.

Security:  Galleries have a security level that determines what group of people can view the gallery. By default, all the pictures within a gallery have the same security level as the gallery they're in. However, you can mark a gallery as "Mixed Security", which lets you make certain pictures within that gallery have a tighter security level.

Meta Information:  Along with a gallery's title, you can also give a gallery a brief description, and set the general time period of when the gallery took place. You can also choose to set a “preview” picture based on any picture from any gallery.

Relationships:  Galleries can have an infinite number of defined Child/Parent relationships between other galleries, allowing you to create a hierarchy of galleries in any configuration you'd like. The only predefined Parent position for galleries is the “Top Level” position, which is the root of all gallery trees for your account. To add, remove, or change the Parent/Child galleries, simply click the gallery's name on the /manage/gals page, and change the relevant settings.
